The Surgeon General's Findings
The 1996 Surgeon General's report on Physical Activity and Health made the following remarkable statements:
Physical inactivity
is among the strongest risk factors for death, more so than cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and obesity.
45 million
Americans are totally sedentary.
Inactive or sedentary lifestyle accounts for 250,000 deaths each year and is responsible for one third of all coronary heart disease, colon cancer, and diabetes.
